Already pregnant? There’s no need to see a GP – you can self refer direct to Maternity. Self-refer through our BadgerNet Maternity Notes System or call 01743261085 to book an appointment.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Who is a Veteran?
A veteran is someone who has served in the armed forces for at least one day, and there are around 4.5m veterans in the UK.
When servicemen and women leave the armed forces, their healthcare is the responsibility of the NHS.
Priority NHS Care for Veterans
As a veterans you are entitled to priority access to NHS hospital care for any condition, as long as it's related to your service.
When leaving or having left the armed forces, you will have been given a summary of your medical records, which you will need to give to your new NHS GP.
As a Veterans, we encourage you to tell your new GP about your veteran status in order to benefit from priority treatment if needed.
Vetrans and Mental Health
A minority of people leaving the armed forces may need access to mental health services later in either when they immediately leave 'service' or later in civilian life.
There are a number of Mental Health community based schemes availabel across the country with Six Pilot schemes having been launched in Stafford, Camden and Islington, Cardiff, Bishop Auckland, Plymouth and Edinburgh. The schemes provide expert NHS treatment.
Veterans can enter the community-based schemes through a number of routes:
For veterans who don't live near one of these places, they can access the Veterans and Reserves Mental Health Programme (formerly Medical Assessment Programme), which is available to veterans deployed on operations since 1982.
The programme offers comprehensive physical and mental health assessments for veterans who feel that their condition may be linked to military service.
Since 2009 NHS patients wishing to complain about primary care services can take their complaint to either the provider (such as the GP or dental practice) or the commissioner, NHS England – but not both.
From 1 August 2015 the NHS England North Midlands Complaints Service will be responsible for the investigation of all NHS England complaints relating to primary care provided in Staffordshire & Shropshire as well as Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire.
Although the North Midlands Complaints Service has offices in Mansfield in Nottinghamshire and Anglesey House in Rugeley, all new complaints need to be sent to the NHS England Customer Contact Centre, who will log the complaint and forward it to the relevant office.

Counselling is an environment where you can explore personal issues, problems and feelings in a safe, secure and confidential setting. It is about empathy, openness and respect.
It is more than a listening ear; Counselling helps clients to look at their problems, to understand them and then with the counsellor’s support find a way through, it may be a way of enabling choice, or of deciding on change or reducing confusion.
This is a fusion of two main types of counselling, Person Centred and Psychodynamic. I start from the premise that we all want to achieve our full potential, e.g. a rose with the right condition (sunshine, fertile soil etc) will grow and blossom, but a rose growing in poor soil and lacking in sunlight will try and grow and be the best it can be in those conditions.
Life’s journey is difficult! With many hurdles, but with counselling to help us overcome these difficulties, we look at the causes to enable us to find our own solutions.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
This looks at our cognitive process that is how we think. It highlights the link between our thoughts, our feelings and our behaviour, and how this cycle contributes to the problems and difficulties in our lives.
It focuses on the problems and difficulties we are facing now, and is a pro-active therapy.
CBT based Mindfulness, which is excellent at helping relieve anxiety and depression.
The NICE guidelines recommend CBT for the treatment of Depression and Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorders
This is very dependent on the nature of the issues, occasionally one session is sufficient, to the other end of the scale where long term work is necessary.
The cost of one session (1hour) is currently £45.
